I wrote recently about Twitter coming for the “Social Media Throne” by Twitter’s direct integration with Apple’s iOS 5, yet to be released at the time and now available to all Apple users, and how the seamless integration of content sharing would be game changing for Twitter. This week Twitter CEO, Dick Costolo, announced that Twitter content generation is growing at an alarming rate.
Twitter has 100 million monthly active users and that 50% log on daily. But this is just the beginning. In January of 2011, Twitter had an average of 100 million tweets per day, that number has more than doubled as it currently averages 250 million tweets per day.
Costolo, at the Web 2.0 conference this week, announced that since the launch of i0S5 last week, they have seen a spike in both users and content created. This number is sure to continue to increase as the 220 million iPod, iPhone, and iPad users continue to upgrade and get used to the new Apple OS.
The continued growth that Twitter is experiencing is a fact that all marketing and social media executives must take in to consideration when putting together a social media advertising campaign. Facebook is still by and large the dominant social community, but as advertisers you have to analyze critically where your social media advertising dollars are best spent to target your audience.
