Search Engine Community Learns From Google's Eric Schmidt That Social Signal Is A Search Engine Ranking Factor

Speaking at LeWeb 2011, Google's Eric Schmidt, made a remark in his comments about Google+ that has confirmed what has been slowly developing about the future of search. Schmidt stated, “The social signal, the people you ‘hang with’, is actually a ranking signal.”

This means that quality content and link building are no longer the be all end all principles of SEO. Social signal is to be considered just as important in strategy to increase your website's visibility. This shift in search has come with the evolution of Bing and the installation of Google's Panda Algorithm and now has been confirmed by Google's top brass. Quality organic content that is created and liked or shared in Facebook, +1'd in Google+, retweeted in Twitter, will have just as much affect on your company's visibility as previous industry principles.
