Study: For Teens Social Media Site Facebook Still No. 1
Lately, Facebook has been in the limelight for less than stellar reasons - tanking stock prices, inflated value accusations and theories that Facebook is already dated, to name a few. However, Zuck can find solace in knowing that teens still rank Facebook as their most utilized social media company.
In a recent survey by Piper Jaffray, 7,700 U.S. teens ranked Facebook
as their most important social media outlet. Twitter
and Instagram, a photo-sharing service owned by Facebook
, followed in second and third place. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Facebook is “well positioned to maintain its spot as the top social network despite competition from Twitter." Similarly, a survey of more than 750 average Facebook users revealed that 18- to 29-year-olds spend the same amount of time on Facebook as they did six months ago.
For companies with a teen or young adult demographic, marketing via Facebook is a valuable resource. As trendsetters, the teen demographic can be a somewhat difficult group to crack. They have varied interests that change much more quickly than their adult counterparts. However, in teen marketing authenticity,
constant dialogue and an inclusive environment are key to fostering an online B2C relationship.Does your company target teen consumers? Which social media platforms have you found are successful? Share your strategies below.image credit: L.e.e on Flickr
