Ten Must Follow Tips For Twitter Users

Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5WPR, wrote an article for Mashable recently outlining the ten tips for high profile Twitter users. It was an excellent strategy to have executives and visible employees of a business to follow when using Twitter.

Here is a recap:

  1. Leave some mistakes alone - Don't apologize for every spelling and grammatical error you make, if you do you call attention to it.

  2. Say you're sorry when it counts - Do apologize when you send out a bad or incorrect link, links are valuable and give authority to your source

  3. Add personality that's positive - Share positive, interesting information. Leave the negative or too personal information off Twitter

  4. Follow with care - Make sure you know who you follow and how they impact your brand. Ask yourself, "How would this person impact my brand?"

  5. Return the favor - Reply, re-tweet, or responding to someone can have long term value. Social media is a two way street

  6. Be conscious of your visuals - Pay attention to the images associated to your account. Not just your own images, but images being re-tweeted and shared with your name attached.

  7. Take ownership of a hashtag - Hashtags allow people to gather around topics, events, and actions across platforms. By owning a hashtag you are shaping the dialogue.

  8. Avoid picking public fights - Social media has a large and impacting reach. Keep your issues private.

  9. Search your name and company regularly - Know what is being tied to your name and company regularly. Regular searches for both will help you stay on top of it.

  10. Be careful of online and offline behavior - Don't say or do something that you wouldn't want the whole world to know about. Social media is viral and more people may find out about your activities than you intended.

The reality is that his list is helpful for the entire Twitter community. Your social media accounts are a reflection of you. What does your social network say about you?
