Website Redesign - How Do You Make Sure You Get What You Want? Who Gets Involved? Management, Sales, Marketing, Tech?

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Can your website redesign see the finish line?"][/caption] It's that time again ... It's time for JASE Digital Media to redesign its website to better deliver quality content to our consumers. Our teams are currently under way with the project and we look to launch in July, but we felt this was a good time to address some problem areas that many businesses face when redesigning their website. As with any website redesign, you probably want a more updated look or maybe add a few new features that weren't on the previous design. Here's how you get there. WHO IS INVOLVED IN YOUR WEBSITE REDESIGN PROCESS? It is paramount that as many people as possible from the company are involved in the brainstorming process, so that the focus of the new website can be united. JASE has adopted a "Top Down" philosophy on our redesign - we've had our upper management involved in the process from the beginning, not just our marketing department. This will lead to a more universally accepted website in the end. WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY'S GOAL FOR THE WEBSITE REDESIGN? The first step in the website redesign must be the establishment of goals or purpose of the redesign. You can best incorporate that direction with a "Top Down" philosophy, but independent of upper level involvement, the complete team must know and understand the reason for the redesign. HOW WILL YOU DETERMINE IF YOUR WEBSITE REDESIGN WAS EFFECTIVE? You should always use metrics to determine if your site redesign was successful. The old adage is true, "You can't argue with numbers," and if you incorporate benchmark vs. forward-cycle metrics into website redesign process, you will be better able to judge its success. If you are going to invest the time and money to redesign your website, whether in house or by an agency, you have to get what you expect out of it. Don't be satisfied with mediocrity.
