Your blog gets people talking. Don't make it tough for them to share.

I was reading a blog the other day from one of our competitors, as we do quite often. I scrolled through a great article on a current topic that I wanted to discuss with a co-worker. So I began to look around the page for somewhere, some way, to share the article with them. I found nothing!

There was not one single way to share this article, outside of copying the link into an email and emailing it to them. This was completely frustrating. So what did I do? I left the website and never started the conversation.

If you are investing the time, energy, and money to create web content, you should always encourage discussion. If your readers are viewing your content, they are interested in what you are saying, and there is a good chance they may want to share what they read with someone else. Which, by the way, is the whole point of generating web content – to expand your reach.

There are a multitude of avenues to share digital media: email, RSS readers like Google Reader, Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, just to name a few.

All of these sharing options are a must and can be easily incorporated into your blog through a plugin like Sociable (for WordPress). If a reader has to look to hard to find a method to share your content or cannot share your content at all, you have lost them, maybe forever.

Sharing is good (even your toys) in today’s social world of the Internet. Do you make it easy to share your content? Tell us how you make this happen.
