Location Based Marketing - Why Don't More Companies Take Advantage Of Social Connectivity?

I read a blog article the other day of a guy that was given a parking space upfront at Home Depot because he was the mayor on Foursquare for that particular Home Depot location. It turned out to be a hoax by this blogger’s friend, who happened to be the mayor of that location, but it got me thinking about why more companies don’t actually reward customer loyalty and innovative technology.

JASE Digital Media employees are encouraged to use Foursquare as part of our daily social connectivity. The other day I checked in at my local Costco and it posted to my Twitter. An old college buddy contacted me just because he saw I was there and it made him think of the area. All I did was check in at Costco.

This is the power of social media at its purest. So why don’t more companies reward their loyal customers, if for nothing else, for the free advertising? It would only serve to benefit them more.

[…] Foursquare day started back in 2010 when Nate Bonilla-Watford, an optometrist from Tampa, Florida, was thinking of creative ways to use Foursquare for his business. He came up with a date for the celebration of 4/16; since 16 is 4 squared and his plan to celebrate was to organize a meet up at various businesses throughout Tampa.
