Could the Hampton Roads area finally get its first major professional sports franchise?

According to Inside Business‘ Philip Newswanger and Bill Cresenzo, a deal is close to being done with the Maloof family, owners of the NBA Sacramento Kings, and Philadelphia-based Comcast-Spectacor to bring the NBA franchise to Virginia Beach. Officials are expected to be in Virginia Beach Tuesday, 8/28, with an announcement of the deal Wednesday, August 29th.

With the Sacramento Kings move to Virginia Beach comes the construction of a new arena and it is being reported by Inside Business that Comcast will guarantee a 25-year lease on the new arena.

The proposed location of the new arena would be near the Virginia Beach Convention Center off Interstate 264.
