Kik, the popular messaging app made successful by the younger generation, has made headlines recently for its valuation, and also its investment from Tencent. There’s also a lesser, but maybe more interesting, news tidbit that came out recently from the Kik camp–they’re incorporating QR codes. Kik CEO Ted Livingston said they are borrowing from the popular chinese app “WeChat” where he liked the integration and use of QR codes within the app.
At the onset Kik said that QR codes will be used to connect users, but they are looking to more QR features like purchasing in the future. It’s an interesting move given how most people have given up on QR codes, but it’s one that could work if implemented properly, especially if you get the backing of the tech-savvy youth in your corner.
