The social community Pinterest has blown up in the last 6 months. In August of this year Pinterest had a little over 1.2 million users. After receiving $27 million in investments from venture capitalists, the social community has over 4 million users and climbing.
For those who do not know, Pinterest is a social community where users organize and share online images or personal images that you find interesting or noteworthy. Currently the community is available via invitation only, much like how Google+ started. But you can visit the website and sign up for an invitation, however membership is faster if you know an existing member .
The early success of Pinterest raises a couple questions that must be analyzed for businesses in 2012:
WILL PINTEREST SERVE A PURPOSE FOR BUSINESSES?
Facebook has Fan pages, Twitter has Brand Pages, Google+has Business pages. Will Pinterest do the same? Is there a purpose for businesses on Pinterest? Does it replace Flickr?
WILL SOCIAL SIGNAL CONSIDER PINTEREST A CREDIBLE FACTOR FOR ORGANIC CONTENT SHARING?
This is the one factor, that going into 2012, may force businesses to invest in Pinterest. Social signal will count from all mediums and if sharing images on Pinterest to cover events and activities will boost our company’s website signal, better believe we will be on board.
How many of you use Pinterest? Would you see benefit of your business being a member? Tweet us @jasegroup and let us know what you think. As always, please feel free to share our content with your friends.
