At the end of January, Google very casually talked about a change that they were making to their search algorithm. It was swallowed up and swept under the rug with the pending launch of Google Penguin, but it was still an important change to the algorithm.
The subtle change was how the Google algorithm views webpage layouts. Google said they would penalize websites that do not have enough content above the fold. Meaning if your content was spaced out incorrectly or overly stuffed with ads, it would be penalized in search results.
