We have focused several blog articles in the last weeks about Google’s Panda algorithm, specifically about how Panda interprets your content and what you should do to increase your website’s visibility. Since its inception we have talked about social content and how it can help build your brand and connect your brand to its consumers.

Today, we finally marry the two together.

Everyone knows about how a video on YouTube can go viral in a heartbeat, matter of fact that is what most people think of when they hear the term “viral content”. The reality, is that depending on the origin of that viral content, not exclusive to videos but all types of social content, it can do much more than drive traffic to your website.

Lets state a fact: social media strategies build links.
Interpretation: every time you update your Facebook status, every time you tweet, every time you check in on Foursquare or Facebook, every time you post a video to Youtube or Vimeo, you are building links back to your website. These links can be just as effective as link building campaign  and most often times are easier that the latter.


In our recent article about Panda’s new valuation metrics, we talked about how content must be fresh, current, and relevant for Google’s search engine to value it. So the natural progression is that social content is just that, all three qualifications, rolled up into one.

The new wrinkle lies in social sharing. Every time one of your fans, friends, followers, or anyone else shares your content, it signals to the search engine that people are finding what they want on your site. So your brand’s visibility is increased. Visibility has always been increased with traffic, it is increased even more now with social sharing.
