Will Twitter's partnership with Apple spell doom for Facebook?

Last week Apple announced that their new operating system, iOS 5 which is scheduled for release this fall, will be fully integrated with Twitter in an effort to make social media sharing easier. iOS 5 is the software update for all of Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices.

SO, HOW WILL TWITTER BE FULLY INTEGRATED?

Those able to upgrade to iOS 5 will have the ability to do things like post photos, videos and links to Twitter with a single tap, within the application. Gone will be the need for additional 3rd party apps to share your social media content.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TWITTER?

This is huge for Twitter. This feature it gives them a definite boost in the social media game, as they will become the social connector of choice with Apple consumers due to ease of connection. Why leave an application to go share information in another application, when you can do it right there on the fly with a tap of a button.

This Apple & Twitter partnership will be akin to the boost AT&T received from Apple when they were awarded exclusive rights to retail the iPhone. Apple has single handedly determined how millions of bits of information will be shared with the new Twitter partnership.

Facebook has to be seriously concerned with its hold on social community market share because as of now, they have no way to join in on this revolution with Apple users.

Let’s talk more about this Apple & Twitter partnership and how your business can tap into the loud voice of social communities.

Twitter’s limitations (140 characters, links count against that limit instead of being separate, no real way to track history) will keep it from being a Facebook killer. Both are useful tools but each serves a different purpose (Facebook for interaction, Twitter for sharing news).

Twitter is too limited, too obnoxious of an interface, and has a much higher noise to signal ratio. Facebook isn’t going away any time soon.

Apple is late to game with this ability, however, Twitter will gain a boost.

One thing I like about Twitter is you don’t constantly get stupid game requests all day long.
