Google really believes in the power of YouTube premium channels. The are investing over $100 million to create a host of brand new premium video channels.
In a new twist, Google now says they will back the investment in the premium channels with $200 million in marketing across various advertising networks so that these channels become a success.
Google will use YouTube, the Google Display Network, and other formats (likely Google+) to promote the premium channels.
The purpose of these premium channels of course is to drive advertising revenue. If a viewer is watching a premium channel they can be exposed to targeted advertising as opposed advertisers trying to target viral videos. Some of the premium channels will include Ashton Kutcher, Amy Poehler, Shaquille O’Neal, and The Wall Street Journal.
